Arkansas Razorbacks lost their Southeastern Conference (SEC) opener to No. 17 Ole Miss, 41-35, in a high-scoring game on Saturday (September 13) in Oxford, Mississippi. Despite the loss, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green made history by becoming the first player in the program to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in a single game.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams combining for 997 yards of total offense and 53 first downs. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the Rebels with 415 total yards and three touchdowns, while Arkansas's Green threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to O'Mega Blake and scored on a 5-yard run.
The game was ultimately decided by a crucial defensive play when Ole Miss's TJ Dottery forced a fumble in the final minutes, stopping Arkansas's comeback attempt. Special teams also played a key role, as Ole Miss kicker Lucas Carneiro was perfect on two field goal attempts, while Arkansas missed both of theirs.
Ole Miss improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC play, while Arkansas fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Razorbacks will look to bounce back in their next game against Memphis on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
