Arkansas is returning to the College World Series for the first time since 2022 after defeating defending national champion Tennessee in the Fayetteville Super Regional. The Razorbacks secured their spot with an 11-4 victory on Sunday (June 8), sweeping the series against the Volunteers.
The game was highlighted by a grand slam from Arkansas right fielder Logan Maxwell in the fourth inning, which gave the Razorbacks a commanding 7-1 lead. This was Maxwell's first career grand slam, and it energized the crowd at the Fayetteville Regional. Arkansas continued to dominate, adding three more runs in the seventh inning, thanks to an RBI single by Wehiwa Aloy and bases-loaded walks drawn by Reese Robinett and Justin Thomas Jr.
On the mound, Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood started strong, allowing only one earned run in 3.1 innings. Relief pitcher Gabe Gibler followed with 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four batters. The Razorbacks' pitching staff held Tennessee at bay, despite a late two-run homer by Tennessee's Jay Abernathy in the ninth inning.
The Razorbacks will begin their College World Series journey in Omaha on Friday (June 13).
