Washington County, Arkansas, is under a state of emergency following severe storms and potential tornadoes that struck the area on Monday night (May 19). The storms caused significant damage in parts of northwest Arkansas and the River Valley, prompting local officials to prioritize cleanup efforts and emergency access.

Tornadoes swept through the region, with the most significant damage reported in the Greenland area between Highway 71 and Interstate 49. The Hog Valley Trailer Park was particularly affected, although no injuries have been reported. Flooding was also observed in Fayetteville, with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Creekside Apartments experiencing high water levels.

Washington County Judge Patrick Deakins provided an update on the situation, noting that downed power lines were slowing response times. He confirmed that the county was tracking tornado damage in Greenland and Lincoln, but no injuries had been reported as of Monday night. Deakins emphasized the extensive damage to trees and power lines, especially in the Cane Hill area, which required heavy equipment for removal.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa reported at least four tornadoes in Washington County, with nearly 24,000 customers left without power. In Lincoln, Mayor Doug Hutchens reported severe damage to homes and power lines, particularly around South Mitchell Avenue and near the high school. Despite the destruction, no injuries were reported.

The storms also impacted Sebastian County, where flooding led to five water rescues in Fort Smith. Power outages were widespread across the River Valley, affecting thousands of customers.

Cleanup efforts are ongoing as crews work to clear debris and restore power. Residents are urged to report any damages or non-emergency needs to local authorities. The Prairie Grove City Council has rescheduled its meeting to address the storm's impact and coordinate further response efforts.
