The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a ground stop at Chicago's O'Hare Airport early Friday (December 20) morning due to snow and ice concerns. The ground stop, issued just after 6 a.m., has led to significant delays, with passengers experiencing up to 40-minute waits at TSA security checkpoints. This disruption comes during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, as over three million passengers are expected to pass through O'Hare and Midway airports between December 20 and January 2.

A wintry weather system began moving through Chicago on Thursday evening, bringing snow accumulation and freezing rain. Although the snow accumulation in Chicago has been minimal so far, snow showers are expected to continue throughout Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications has issued a warning to drivers about slick roadways and patches of black ice, advising them to prepare for traffic delays and plan for additional travel time.

As the storm moves east, travelers are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and check with airlines for the latest flight information.
