Governor Sanders and the Arkansas Department of Corrections is announcing a land purchase for a new prison. The over 800-acre property in Charleston was purchased for just under $3 million and will be used to house 3,000 inmates. The Board of Corrections states Arkansas is short roughly 3,000 inmate beds. The project must be approved by the Board of Corrections for construction to begin. Once complete, the prison is expected to create about eight-hundred jobs.
