US Olympic athlete Lee Kiefer, a three-time Olympian and gold medalist, is a force to be reckoned with in the world of fencing. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, Kiefer began fencing at the age of 5. She was the youngest member of the 2009 U.S. Senior World Foil Team and the only athlete in the world to have earned individual podium finishes at the senior, junior, and cadet world championships in 2011.

Kiefer's impressive career includes being the first American woman to earn the number one foil ranking in 2017. She has won 22 World Cup medals, including five golds. Her most notable achievement to date is winning the gold medal in the women's individual foil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, making her the first U.S. fencer, male or female, to win a gold medal in foil.

Balancing her athletic career with her academic pursuits, Kiefer completed two and a half years of medical school at the University of Kentucky during the lead-up to the Tokyo Games. She is currently on a leave of absence from medical school to fully focus on defending her Olympic gold medal at Paris 2024.

Kiefer is married to fellow Team USA fencer and Olympic medalist Gerek Meinhardt. Both are taking a hiatus from medical school and competing at the 2023 Pan American Games. They boast an impressive collective haul of 11 medals from previous Pan Ams with Kiefer seeking a fourth consecutive individual triumph in Santiago.

Despite the challenges and pressures of being an Olympic athlete, Kiefer remains committed to her sport and is preparing to defend her title at Paris 2024. After the Paris games, she plans to restart her third year of medical school alongside her husband.
