A Massachusetts teacher said his school hired a party bus that included stripper poles to take students on a field trip amid the nationwide bus driver shortage in a now viral Twitter thread.

"Due to the national bus driver shortage, my school has hired a party bus with stripper poles to transport us for a field trip. This is not a drill," Jim Mayers, whose Twitter bio states "teaches high school English," shared on Friday (September 17) morning.

Mayers then shared a photo of what appears to be the alleged stripper pole and party bus lighting in the thread.

The teacher then added an interaction he claims he took place between himself and a student about the alleged pole:

"'Mr. Mayers,' asked one student. 'Is that a 'real' stripper pole?"
"'Yes,' I replied.
"'Huh,' he said. 'I've never seen one before.'
"'Me neither.'"

Mayers said he expected responses from Twitter users questioning the legitimacy of the incident, but insists it is "a true story," adding that "the entire day was in fact a phenomenal experience for all the kids" and that they "didn't really care about the bus."

Last week, CBS News reported more than half of schools nationwide were dealing with a "severe" bus driver shortage.

Mayers said his school had an original school bus charter in place, but it fell through midweek and the school promised "hundreds of kids a fun day."

The teacher advised the Twitter users reading the thread to contact elected officials and "demand astonishingly massive structural investments in our education system, including paying all bus drivers, facilities, and operations staff a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits."
